Spiderweb Seven-Layer Dip

Seven layer dip decorated with a sour cream spiderweb and tortilla chips
Rate this recipe

Seven creamy, crunchy Tex-Mex layers topped with a sour cream spiderweb and a little olive spider. It looks impressive but is just spreading and piping, so it's a great one for kids to finish.

Quick facts

Prep: 25 min

Cook: 0 min

Makes: 10 to 12 servings

Level: Easy

Contains: Milk · Wheat (gluten)

Ingredients

  • 1 can (16 oz) refried beans
  • 1 1/2 cups sour cream, divided
  • 2 tablespoons taco seasoning
  • 1 cup chunky salsa, drained
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded Mexican-blend cheese
  • 3 green onions, sliced
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes
  • 2 cups guacamole (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 tablespoon milk
  • 2 large pitted black olives
  • Tortilla chips, for serving

Step-by-step method

  1. In a 9-inch pie plate or 8-inch square dish, spread the refried beans. Stir 1 cup sour cream with the taco seasoning and spread over the beans.

  2. Layer on the salsa, cheese, green onions, and tomatoes. Spread the guacamole over the top in a smooth, even layer.

  3. Stir the remaining 1/2 cup sour cream with the milk. Spoon into a zip-top bag and snip a tiny corner.

  4. Pipe 3 or 4 circles, one inside another, on the guacamole. Drag a toothpick from the center out to the edge 8 times to make a web.

  5. For the spider, set one olive half on the web as the body. Slice the other olive into thin slivers and arrange 8 legs. Serve with chips.

Pro tip

Drain the salsa in a strainer for 10 minutes. Less liquid keeps the layers neat and the web from bleeding.
