Ingredients

  • 1 package (17.3 oz/490 g) puff pastry, thawed, 2 sheets
  • 8 oz (225 g) guava paste
  • 4 oz (115 g) cold cream cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 tablespoon honey or simple syrup, optional

Step-by-step instructions

  1. Heat the oven to 400°F (205°C) and line a sheet pan with parchment paper.
  2. Cut each puff pastry sheet into 9 equal rectangles. Cut the guava paste and cream cheese into 9 portions each.
  3. Place guava and cream cheese in the center of 9 rectangles, leaving a 1/2-inch border.
  4. Whisk the egg with the water. Brush the borders, top with the remaining rectangles and seal with a fork.
  5. Cut two small vents on top, brush with egg wash and sprinkle with sugar.
  6. Bake for 18 to 20 minutes, until puffed and golden. Brush lightly with honey if desired and cool for 10 minutes.
